Jasper Niens

Jasper Niens is an artist and builder who makes installations where the contemplator has a part. He works like an architect using the same methods and materials, but in his work, he lets the public experience a spot rather than merely using it or passing through.

He has designed a double wall with 48 doors to divide 4 rooms. He has given trees on an outside field their own platform by making walkways around them. At an alternative art fair he made a huge snake of wood and textile where the public could walk through and meet in the middle.

Jasper Niens objective is to make us more aware of our surroundings in a clear, unique and charming way.

Under The Mango Tree | UTMT
Under the Mango Tree is inspired by the mango trees under which communities in Africa come together to share their stories with one another, a holistic and spiritual setting where everyone is welcome.

Exhibited at the 'Who do you think you are?' group exhibition curated by Sabrina Starke for The Cultural Season Opening at TENT, Rotterdam, the Netherlands, UTMT is built using a unique system of steel and wood developed by the artist, with the pavilion’s dome embracing the public and offering security through its circular forms.
